Hi all

Postby thecosmeticsboutique » Fri Oct 16, 2009 8:14 am

Hi All,

I am new to the site, I have been browsing it for for a few months while I have been thinking about setting up a business.
Bit of background on me, I am a Makeup Artist with over 9 years experience, most recently working freelance but bookings have slowed down so I have been
thinking about some way to get an extra income to help dh with the bills. I am in the process of setting up an online cosmetics boutique selling some very well known brands and brands that aren't currently available here e.g. Victorias Secret

I will also be selling custom eyeshadow palettes, where customers can choose 15 shades or 28 shades. Mac Eyeshadows also fit into the palettes.
I am extremely aware of the current economic climate so I am offering all the products at very good prices. Aswell as Paypal, I was going to offer customers the choice of purchasing products off an order form and maybe down the line have eyeshadow parties.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this :)

thanks for the welcome everyone, I am still in the process of doing up the site.
I am thinking about offering a discount for Professional Makeup Artists and nail technicians(I will be selling OPI and China Glaze Nail Polish), just need to work out the kinks.
Any Makeup artists/nail technicians on here think it would be something of interest to them?

Hi there.

Welcome to IBW. You'll get plenty of advice and encouragement here on the forum and food for thought so here's some things to consider:

I think thats a nice little idea you have there and as a MAC user myself, its something i'd definitely love to see an online Irish business selling. But having spoken to girls on the MAC counter in Brown Thomas, i thought BT's had the sole right to distribute in Ireland at the moment. Is that right? If not, it'd be great to see another irish company stocking it as i'm rarely in Dublin often enough to go to BT's to stock up. Will you be sourcing directly from MAC or will you be using an agent? These are all things you will need to consider.

Obviously in my business, i come across new businesses every day. The name of the business will be very important in reeling girls in to buy. Is the website going to be called thecosmeticboutique? Its a good little name there.

If you need any advice or suggestions, feel free to put them up here and we'd all be happy to contribute.

Hi Geri

Thanks for your post. In regards to the Mac I will be using an agent from the states.I've purchased from them before for my own kit(on their retail site) and found the quality of all the brands as good as what you can get in store.
Yup I will be calling the website thecosmeticsboutique.

Hi

Best of luck with The Cosmetic Boustique. Well done on creating a business which adds a bit of sparkle in dull recessionary days.

Hi there

Welcome to IBW. Its a great idea. I'm a MAC user as well as Benefit so would love to see an irish online shop where we could purchase. How will you fare on prices? Will you be charging in and around the same as BT (for MAC) and Debenhams (for Benefit) or would you end up being a little more expensive? Mind you for the convenience of not having to go to Dublin, maybe it would be worth paying more.

Hi,

thanks for your question, I will also be stocking some benefit :)
I will be charging less than what you pay for them in the likes of BT, in some cases I will be charging less than the sterling price.
For example I will be selling Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation for €15 and Benefit Brow Zings for €20

I am currently doing up a price list before I start on website.
Once I have one done I can let you know and can email you a copy
