How long is an ezine

Postby QuirkyM » Fri Feb 09, 2007 8:57 pm

Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has anything insipiring to say about ezines - I've sent out four so far and used good graphics and competitions for pull - I'm tracking the click throughs using www.virtualresponse.com - which is good but I'm interested to know what's the consensus - is short and sweet really less annoying - I think I convert about 10% into sales - how could I improve on that?

Thanks
Michelle

I don't think there is a black and white yes or no to this one, it entirely depends on the content and the only way you are going to find out is test, track, tweak, test track tweak ! maybe try some split testing if your newsletter provider has that feature.

As to trying to improve your conversion rate, what about an Ask campaign? find out what your subscribers want? back to the testing and tweaking see which newsletters get the best response? When it comes to newlsetters you really have to keep your eye on the ball and keep trying to build your list !

Business Description: Support and Information for Home-Based Business Owners

Postby AileenH » Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:57 am

hi michelle

the newsetters i tend to actually read are the ones that have four headings at the most, with a short description under each heading (three lines), and the heading is a link to click and read more if i find the short description interesting.

if there are too many headings and no summaries i tend not to read the newsletter. I think this is because i feel it wouodl take me too long to get to the information i am interested in.

i hope this helps,
Aileen Hannan

I am writing up some longer guides at the moment for the blog but a few quick tips:

* Use short, informative subject lines.

* Make then catchy to attract a reader attention.

* Send messages in both HTML and text.

* Reflect the brand of your Web site.

* Design for the preview pane. Many people use Microsoft Outlook's preview pane to glance at the beginning of a message before opening it. By designing your core message so that it fits inside the pane (which is around 500 pixels wide in the most frequently used setting), you can more easily grab your customers' attention.

* Design for "NEW MAIL" pop up. Users of outlook have a little pop up in the bottom right corner of the screen with line or two from the mail that just arrived. Make what they see interesting.

* Include links to relevant content in all sections. Some customers may only read parts of your message, so make sure to provide appropriate links to your Web site from each section.

* Follow a regular schedule.

* And easier said then done. Include great content.
